Solar YYC Multi-Family:
Calgary-based Solar YYC Inc., led by President Alex Tyndale, was named the winner in the new Multi-Family category of APsystems’ 2024 Canadian Installation Awards for their 315kW system across four residential buildings in Copperfield Park II. The project’s goal was to offset common loads—parkades, hallway lighting, block heater plug-ins, and exterior lighting—while lowering shared operating costs. “APsystems solved the rapid shutdown and MLPE needs across many roof faces,” Tyndale said. “It’s plug-and-play without sacrificing quality, and delivers real savings to residents.” The award-winning system demonstrates Solar YYC’s ability to deliver scalable, efficient solar solutions for multi-family developments.
APsystems microinverters were key to the project’s success, providing seamless module-level power electronics (MLPE) and rapid shutdown (RSD) capabilities across multiple roof orientations. Tyndale praised the technology, noting, “APS does what it says, in terms of production. An equivalent string system will almost always produce less than APS and, in effect, be much more dangerous.” Installation was simple, fast, and reliable, with built-in functionality eliminating extra components. Positive community reception highlights the system’s ongoing energy savings, with some residents now specifically requesting APsystems over other solutions. The project underscores how reliable technology, thoughtful design, and resident-focused performance can redefine multi-family solar in Canada.
